A productive and happy day starts with a productive morning routine! Since I started working for myself two years ago, I have learned how important it is to take the time to set your mind and body up for a successful day. In this post, I’m sharing 5 simple things to do in the morning to feel happy, calm, and in charge of your day.
1. Tidy up your space!
Decluttering and creating a clean, tidy space really boosts your productivity. It helps you get into a clearer, calmer headspace. My best and most productive days start with tidying up my apartment. It is such a simple thing, but it’s like magic. First things first, start by making your bed. Then organize your desk/work space. Since I work from home most days, I also tidy up the living room, so there is no distraction.
2. Create a morning routine to set yourself up for success emotionally, spiritually, physically.
It is so important to set the tone for your day with a morning ritual. This might look different for everyone. For me, my morning routine involves drinking warm lemon water, doing a 10 minute meditation and writing in my journal. These 3 things help me to be my best self during the day. You don’t have to be perfect with this routine to see the benefits. Some days I teach very early Pilates classes, so I would do whatever I can fit in. Experiment and find what works best for you and your schedule. Write down 3 rituals you want to do to prep yourself and try them tomorrow morning. :)
3. Do some kind of mindful movement.
Moving your body in the morning can boost your mood, increase your ability to focus, so you can actually get things done. You can do a gentle Pilates routine or a quick yoga flow, or go out for a walk. On the days when I can get in a 20-30 minute Pilates, I feel more positive, productive, and efficient during the day.

4. Turn off anything that dings, rings or pops up.
Let's be real. We are constantly being distracted by our phones, texting, scrolling on IG, checking our emails all day. This just makes it so hard to concentrate and stay focused on our tasks/projects. Once you turn off all that noise, you can take control of your beautiful brain back! To be honest, the day I turned off my Instagram notifications was one of the best days of my life lol. It saved me so much time and headspace. If you find yourself getting distracted/annoyed by your phone, try turning off the notifications. It’s life changing.
5. Do the most important things first.
Use the first half of the day for creative work. Maybe you need to write a blog post, or work on your business plan, reflect on big picture stuff. Leave the reactive tasks for a later time in the day. So, for example, from 9am to 12pm I'm focused on teaching Pilates, creating content, brainstorming about different projects. I don’t check my emails or social media all day long like I used to do. I only get back to texts, emails later in the day after I take care of the more important creative tasks. This is intentional and makes such a positive difference to your productivity.
